Youth Zone Mosaic

Holywood Youth Centre

Holywood Youth Centre is based in Holywood town center catering for young people between 9 – 19 years old. We aim to provide young people from the greater Holywood area with safe, structured, and supervised activities that will allow healthy growth and development regardless of race, class, or creed. We achieve this through:

  • Establishing and developing youth programmes that meet their needs
  • Providing programmes that will support a healthy lifestyle and provide a safe environment
  • Establishing a centralised and accessible structure to the youth work programmes for all the young people of the greater Holywood area

Weekly we deliver a junior youth club, senior drop-in, street outreach, school based outreach, workshops in schools covered areas of the curriculum for primary and post-primary schools. We have a Junior Leaders scheme which provides training and opportunities for young people to develop their leadership skills and volunteer.

Youth Zone Mosaic

Previously, HYC delivered a year long international project that involved a 10-day education experience in India working alongside the charity Frontline. The aim of the project was to broaden the experiences of our young people through workshops before and after the trip, a visit to India where the young people delivered workshops and activities for 300+ young people in schools.

Currently, HYC is in partnership with Aisialdi Sarea Portu (Portugalete, Basque region) on a youth exchange, focusing on the theme of Active Citizenship. This will include a youth exchange in both Holywood and Portugalete for 14 young people aged 16-19 years old.

Young People Leading Change (YPLC)

The aim of YPLC is to nurture a generation of young-people who are willing and able to lead change in Northern Ireland. YPLC will build the capacity of young-people to make their own contribution to society by developing skills, including resilience, entrepreneurialism, creativity, empathy, communication and confidence. The key outcomes of YPLC include:

  1. Create opportunities for young-people in Northern Ireland to interact in a meaningful way with and learn from others who are different to them
  2. Promote Northern Ireland as an outward and forward looking region, disparaging negative narratives
  3. Address contentious and controversial issues, including sectarianism, racism, homophobia, social issues/class, education divides
  4. Harness the potential, enthusiasm and desires of young-people to contribute towards a positive living environment in NI

YPLC achieves this through delivering high quality non-formal education programmes through peer-leadership, exploring areas including - pupil leadership, dealing with difference, shared education, school mergers and relationship development.
